Coprophagy

Coprophagy is the consumption of faeces. In this case, it is the consumption of one's own faeces or the faeces of one's own species, i.e. other people. Humans (and animals) that do this are called autocrophages.

Today, doctors agree that most people who suffer from coprophagia have psychological or neurological disorders. Some of these can be seen as subtypes of PICA syndrome. The inner compulsion to eat excrement is often associated with alcoholism, dementia, brain atrophy or tumours, schizophrenia or other obsessive-compulsive disorders.
