Assigned gender

Assigned gender, also known as midwife gender, is the gender entry on a child's birth certificate that was assigned at birth based on genitalia. However, it can also be the gender that was forcibly assigned to an inter* person through genital surgery. In Germany, there are now four valid gender entries: male, female, diverse and open civil status (where nothing is entered).
