Chastity belt

A chastity belt is a belt around the waist with a strap through the crotch, usually made of steel. The chastity belt is designed to prevent sexual intercourse and/or masturbation. Today it is often used in BDSM practices. The chastity belt was first mentioned in writing around 1400, when it was used to force women to abstain while men took part in the crusades of the time. However, it is assumed that it was already used as a sex toy and instrument of torture in the Middle Ages. It is also more likely that the chastity belt was not used to remain chaste over the long period of a crusade. That would be nonsensical for hygienic reasons alone.
