Blue balls

Blue balls, medically more accurately described as epididymal hypertension, refers to a pressure or aching sensation in the testicles after prolonged sexual arousal without ejaculation. The discomfort can also occur after ejaculation if the erection was maintained for a particularly long time beforehand. It is usually caused by temporary congestion in the genital area.

The symptoms are generally harmless and usually fade on their own. However, persistent, severe, or one-sided pain should be medically evaluated, as other causes are possible. Immediate medical attention is important if there is nausea, swelling, fever, or sudden severe pain.
