Darkroom

A darkroom is a deliberately dim or barely lit room, usually found in certain bars, clubs, or scene venues, where anonymous or semi-anonymous sexual contact may take place. The term does not come from photography, but from queer subculture. Depending on the venue and its rules, different forms of encounter, initiation, and sexual interaction may occur.

Consent, mutual respect, and compliance with house rules are essential. In dark environments in particular, it is important to communicate boundaries clearly and pay attention to others’ signals. Anonymity does not replace consent; any contact must be voluntary for everyone involved.
