Abrasion
Abrasion is originally a medical term and refers to an abrasion of the skin. It describes a superficial mechanical irritation or removal of skin tissue caused by scratching, rubbing, scraping, or chafing with suitable tools.
In a BDSM context, abrasion describes a deliberately applied practice in which the skin is intentionally irritated to increase sensitivity in specific areas of the body. The aim is to intensify the perception of touch or subsequent stimuli. The practice is carried out in a controlled manner and within a previously agreed scene.
To achieve the desired skin response, various abrasive materials may be used, such as rough fabrics, brushes, or other textured objects. Plant-based materials that cause noticeable skin reactions are also sometimes used, for example branches or plants with irritating surfaces.
A well-known form of abrasion using plant materials is so-called birching, in which bundles of branches are used as a stimulus tool. As with all abrasive practices, particular care is required to avoid injury. Type, intensity, and duration should always be adapted to individual limits and clearly agreed upon in advance.
