Detumescence

Detumescence refers to the subsiding of an erection after orgasm or after sexual arousal ends. The term comes from the Latin detumescere, meaning “to subside” or “to go down.” It is used primarily in medical and sexological contexts.

Detumescence is a normal physiological process. Its duration can vary from person to person and depends, among other things, on physical condition, age, and individual responsiveness. If an erection persists unusually long or is painful, medical advice should be sought. 05/25
