Intersex
Intersex refers to people whose physical sex characteristics do not fit neatly into the medical categories of exclusively male or female. This can include genitals, chromosomes, hormones, or internal reproductive organs. Intersex variations are a natural part of human bodily diversity and are not inherently a medical condition.
In the past, and in some cases still today, intersex children and adolescents have been medically or surgically assigned to a binary sex, often without sufficient consent. Such interventions can have physical and psychological consequences and are ethically controversial. Respectful treatment of intersex people requires recognition, self-determination, and avoiding unnecessary medical procedures.
