Zettai Ryōiki
Zettai Ryōiki is a term from Japanese otaku and manga/anime culture. It refers to the strip of skin between a short skirt or shorts and over-the-knee socks, as well as to the clothing combination itself. The expression is often used as an aesthetic or fetish-adjacent motif and describes the deliberate appeal of the visible skin area between clothing and socks.
The term originated in the context of Neon Genesis Evangelion and was later redefined in otaku slang to its modern meaning. It is especially known for the ratio of skirt, exposed skin, and sock length, which is sometimes treated as a stylistic guideline. Zettai Ryōiki is more of a pop-culture and fashion term than a classic sexual technical term, although it can be used in fetish-related contexts.
