Feminist Day of Struggle is a politically emphasized name for 8 March, which is also known as Women’s Day of Struggle, International Women’s Day, or Women’s Day. International Women’s Day was first observed in 1911 in several European countries; since 1921, 8 March has been established as a central date in international socialist and feminist traditions. Historically, the day emerged from the socialist women workers’ movement and was closely connected to demands for political equality, especially equal, secret, and free voting rights for women.

Today, 8 March draws attention to ongoing inequalities, violence, exploitation, and discrimination experienced by women and other people affected by patriarchal structures. These include the gender pay gap, unpaid care work, sexualized violence, restrictions on reproductive rights, transphobic and interphobic discrimination, racism, ableism, classism, and disadvantages faced by refugee, poor, queer, or multiply marginalized women.

Many people prefer the term Feminist Day of Struggle to make clear that the day is not an apolitical celebration or a matter of symbolic gestures such as giving flowers, but about rights, self-determination, solidarity, and social change. The term also emphasizes that feminism should be understood intersectionally and does not concern only cis women, but includes all people who fight against patriarchal power structures and gender-based discrimination.
