Women’s Strike Day
Women’s Strike Day, also known as International Women’s Day, is observed every year on March 8. It emerged from the women’s and workers’ movements of the early 20th century and was originally established as a political day of action for women’s rights, especially voting rights, better working conditions, and social participation.
Today, the day draws attention worldwide to ongoing inequality, discrimination, and violence against women. It also explicitly includes women facing multiple forms of marginalization, such as women with disabilities, trans women, women of color, refugee women, or women in precarious living situations. The day therefore serves both as a reminder of historic struggles and as a call for current political and social awareness.
