Polygamy

Polygamy refers to a marriage form in which one person is married to more than one person at the same time. Most commonly, it describes a relationship in which one person has multiple spouses. The term is also sometimes used more generally for multiple marriages, but it is viewed very differently depending on the legal and cultural context.

It is important to distinguish polygamy from polyamory: polygamy concerns marriage as a legal or social institution, while polyamory refers to multiple consensual love relationships. In many countries, polygamy is not allowed or not legally recognized. The term should therefore be used factually and with awareness of the relevant legal and cultural framework.
