Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually transmitted diseases, or sexually transmitted infections, are illnesses and infections that are primarily passed on through sexual contact. They include, among others, HIV/AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, HPV, and hepatitis B.
Responsible protection is important: condoms and dental dams can significantly reduce the risk of transmission, but they do not provide complete protection. Depending on the pathogen, vaccinations, regular testing, and open communication with sexual partners are also advisable. If an infection is suspected, medical advice should be sought and unprotected sex should be avoided until the matter has been clarified.
