Transmisogyny
Transmisogyny refers to a form of transphobia specifically directed at trans women and is often linked to misogyny, devaluation of femininity, or rejection of feminine gender roles. It can appear, for example, when trans women are excluded from feminist or queer spaces, denied access to women-oriented safety or support services, or held to stricter expectations regarding appearance and behavior than cis women.
Transmisogyny is a form of discrimination and can have social, psychological, and practical consequences. It often shows up as double standards: trans women may not be recognized as women if they wear certain clothes, do not wear makeup, or do not meet specific beauty norms. Respectful treatment means recognizing trans women as women and affording them the same rights, spaces, and standards as other women.
