Trans
Trans is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity does not fully or at all correspond to the sex assigned to them at birth. Depending on the context, it may include transsexual, transident, and transgender people as well as other non-binary or gender-diverse persons. The exact use of the term varies and should be guided respectfully by how a person self-identifies.
In interactions with trans people, correct forms of address, chosen names, and respectful language are important. Medical, legal, and social aspects of transition can vary widely and should not be generalized. The term describes identity, not automatically appearance, body characteristics, or sexual orientation.
