Gag

A gag is a BDSM accessory placed in or over the mouth to make speaking difficult or impossible. Ball gags are commonly used; they consist of a ball and straps that are fastened behind the head. Gags can intensify control, helplessness, or power dynamics in a scene.

Because a gag can interfere with breathing, swallowing, and the ability to signal an emergency, special caution is necessary. It should only be used if the person can breathe freely, the fit is checked, and a nonverbal safeword or other clear stop signal is agreed upon. If there is shortness of breath, panic, pain, or excessive saliva buildup, it must be removed immediately; it should never be worn unattended.
