Leather
Leather is a traditional material in the BDSM and fetish scene and has long been associated with strength, dominance, protection, and style. The connection between leather and BDSM was shaped after World War II, among other things, by gay motorcycle clubs and their deliberately masculine clothing. Over time, this developed into a distinct fetish culture that remains visible today in clothing, accessories, and equipment.
Leather’s popularity in the wider public was also influenced by fashion, music, and pop culture. In a BDSM context, leather clothing can emphasize a particular role or aesthetic, but it is not automatically a sign of BDSM practices. Comfort, care, and proper fit matter, since leather is durable but can be sensitive to improper cleaning or overly tight wear. With tight clothing or masks, freedom of movement and safe handling should be ensured.
