Trans Man
A trans man is a man who was not assigned male at birth and who identifies as male. The term describes a gender identity and does not automatically indicate body characteristics, appearance, or sexual orientation. Both “trans man” and “transman” are found in usage; the respectful self-designation of the person concerned is what matters most.
The abbreviation FTM means “female to male,” but many trans people reject it as outdated or inappropriate because it does not adequately capture gender identity. In interactions with trans men, chosen names, correct pronouns, and respectful language are important. Medical and social transition processes can vary greatly from person to person.
