Transition
Transition refers to the process through which a trans person makes social, physical, and/or legal changes in order to express their gender identity. This may include name and legal gender changes, a different style of dress, the use of another first name and different pronouns, as well as medical measures such as hormone treatment or surgical procedures. Which steps are involved varies greatly from person to person.
A transition is not a uniform or mandatory process and does not have to include all of the aspects mentioned. Medical measures involve risks and side effects and should only be undertaken after professional consultation and informed decision-making. Social and legal steps may also be regulated differently depending on the country; what matters most is the person’s self-determination and well-being.
