Transgender

Transgender is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity does not fully or at all correspond to the sex assigned to them at birth. This includes people who identify as male or female as well as those outside the binary gender system, such as non-binary, agender, or genderfluid people. The term describes gender identity and does not automatically say anything about body characteristics, appearance, or sexual orientation.

The use of “transgender” can vary depending on language and individual preference. What matters is respecting a person’s self-identification and using the correct name and pronouns. Medical, social, and legal aspects of transition can differ greatly from person to person and should not be generalized.
