Whip

A whip is a flexible striking implement that has historically been used for corporal punishment, in animal handling, and in some BDSM contexts. In BDSM, it is used as an instrument for controlled striking, usually with clearly felt intensity that varies greatly depending on the design. The term covers different constructions; quality, material, and handling are crucial.

Careful and knowledgeable use is essential, as whips can easily cause injury due to their reach and speed. Sensitive body areas such as the head, neck, face, joints, spine, and kidneys must not be targeted. Consent, clear agreements, gradual progression, sufficient distance, practice, and a solid understanding of the risks are indispensable. Improper use can cause severe bruising, cuts, or more serious injuries; heavy or weighted variants should not be used lightly.
