Allo / allosexual

Allosexual describes people who generally experience sexual attraction towards other people. The term is the counterpart to asexual and is mainly used in asexual and queer contexts. Allosexual does not automatically mean that someone is sexually active or constantly feels sexual desire. It mainly means that sexual attraction is present at all.

The term is useful when talking about people without immediately placing them into the usual categories such as heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. It helps to distinguish more clearly between sexual orientation and sexual attraction. Allosexual is therefore a descriptive technical term, not a judgement. It is especially used when referring more precisely to the spectrum between asexual and non-asexual identities.
