Breath reduction

Breath reduction is an extreme and highly risky form of breath control. Breathing is deliberately restricted or temporarily interrupted to increase arousal. This is not a harmless practice and can very quickly lead to unconsciousness, permanent injury or death.

The described mixture of breathlessness, loss of control and panic is experienced as arousing by some, but it also makes the practice especially dangerous. Even small mistakes can have severe consequences. Breath reduction is therefore not for inexperienced people and should not be downplayed. If the term is used, it should be accompanied by a clear warning about the life-threatening risk.
