Slowword
A slowword is a special form of safeword and does not signal that a scene should be stopped, but that the Top should slow down or be gentler. It is used when a situation is still acceptable, but should continue more cautiously or softly. A traffic-light system is often used, for example “yellow” or “slow,” to provide a clear and easy-to-understand signal.
A slowword also requires clear prior agreement. Everyone involved should know exactly what it means in the specific scene and how to respond. A slowword does not replace a safeword; it complements it: if a limit is reached or uncertainty, pain, shortness of breath, or discomfort increases, the scene must be stopped immediately. Clear communication is essential, especially in riskier BDSM practices.
