Frigid / Frigidity
The terms “frigid” and “frigidity” are outdated and are generally no longer used as medical terminology today. They once referred to sexual dysfunctions or a significantly reduced level of sexual desire and/or pleasure. In everyday use, the words are often derogatory and should be avoided because they quickly stigmatize or judge people.
Low libido, arousal disorders, orgasm difficulties, or pain during intercourse can occur at any age and may have many causes, such as hormonal changes, psychological stress, relationship problems, medication, or physical illness. Whether treatment is needed depends on whether the person concerned experiences distress; if symptoms persist, medical or sex-therapy evaluation is advisable.
