Heteronormativity
In a heteronormative society, it is assumed that all people are cisgender and heterosexual. This way of thinking presents heterosexuality and a binary gender order as the norm and treats other identities, relationship models, and ways of living as deviations.
As a result, queer, transgender, non-binary, and polyamorous people are often made invisible, misunderstood, or discriminated against. The term therefore does not describe individual behavior, but a social framework that can limit diversity and reinforce discriminatory structures.
