Non-binary
Non-binary is a term used for people whose gender identity is not exclusively man or woman. This can include identities experienced as both, as between male and female, outside those categories, or as neither clearly male nor female. Non-binary is an umbrella term that covers a range of identities and experiences.
The term may also be used by intersex people if it fits their identity, but it is not automatically the same as being intersex. Non-binary identities are diverse, and the most appropriate label is always self-chosen. In respectful communication, the person’s preferred name and pronouns should be used.
