Lesbian refers to women who are romantically and/or sexually attracted to women. Some non-binary people also use the term when it accurately describes their own romantic or sexual orientation. It is primarily a self-identification and should not be assigned from the outside.

Lesbian is a sexual orientation and says nothing about character, behavior, or gender roles. Some people experience their orientation clearly and consistently, while others use the term more flexibly or alongside additional labels. What matters is respecting each person’s chosen self-description.
