Same gender loving

“Same gender loving” (SGL) is a self-identification term used especially in parts of the African American community. It is often used as an alternative to labels such as homosexual, bisexual, or queer, with the aim of expressing an identity that is not defined through European or Eurocentric concepts of sexuality. The term emphasizes cultural self-definition as well as sexual identity.

SGL is primarily a cultural and political self-description rather than a medical category. Depending on the person, it may include homosexual, bisexual, or queer experiences. It is important to respect the term as an expression of identity and belonging rather than narrowly defining it from the outside.
