Y Position

In the Y position, the bound person is secured so that the arms and legs form a Y shape. Typically, the arms are tied together above the head and the legs are spread apart; depending on the setup, separate restraints, spreader bars, or other suitable bondage equipment may be used. The position can make body access easier and is used in BDSM mainly for restraint and display.

The Y position is an advanced restraint position with increased risk, as joints, nerves, and blood flow can be stressed. It should only be used with suitable equipment, clear prior agreement, reliable stop signals, and regular checks. If pain, numbness, or overstretching occurs, the restraints must be released immediately. A St. Andrew’s cross usually results in an X position rather than a Y position.
