Apresromantic

Apresromantic describes a romantic orientation in which romantic attraction can only develop after another form of attraction toward the same person has already been experienced. This prior attraction may be platonic, aesthetic, sensual, emotional, intellectual, or sexual, for example.

The term does not specify which type of attraction must come first; it only describes that romantic attraction for the person in question does not arise independently of it. Apresromantic may overlap with other orientation terms, but it is not the same as demiromantic, because a close emotional bond is not necessarily required.

Apresromantic can be understood as an identity on the aromantic spectrum. As with all orientation terms, it describes personal experience; whether “apresromantic” feels accurate is for the individual to decide.
