Exhibitionism refers to a sexual preference in which arousal or gratification is obtained through exposing one’s body, especially the genitals or breasts, or through sexual behavior that may be visible to others. The term is used in both clinical and everyday language. Its usual counterpart is voyeurism, the pleasurable observation of others.

It is important to distinguish consensual erotic exposure in private or BDSM contexts from exhibitionistic behavior directed at uninvolved third parties. Unwanted exposure in public can be harassing or illegal and should not be confused with consensual sexuality.
