Monosexual

Monosexual is a category of sexual orientation. People may describe themselves as monosexual if they experience sexual attraction exclusively or primarily toward people of one gender or one gender group. This may include, for example, heterosexual, gay or lesbian orientations, depending on how the person understands their own desire.

The term is mainly used in contrast to non-monosexual orientations such as bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual or other bi+ orientations, where sexual attraction to more than one gender is possible. Monosexual does not say how strongly, how often or under what circumstances sexual attraction is experienced, and it is not the same as monogamous or monoamorous.

As with all labels, self-description is what matters. Not every person whose orientation could be categorized from the outside as monosexual uses this term for themselves. In dating, sexuality and BDSM, no general assumptions should be made from monosexuality about bodies, relationship style, roles, preferences, exclusivity or boundaries; clear communication and consent are essential.
