Multisexual

Multisexual describes a sexual orientation in which a person may be sexually attracted to people of several or many genders, but not necessarily all genders. The term can be useful when “bisexual” feels too broad or “pansexual” does not feel accurate, because one’s attraction includes multiple genders but is not experienced as gender-independent or all-encompassing.

Multisexuality is one of the orientations within the broader spectrum of bisexuality or bi+ sexuality. Bi+ functions as a macrolabel for orientations in which attraction to more than one gender is possible, such as bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, polysexual or multisexual. The exact meaning may vary from person to person, so each person’s self-description is what matters.

Multisexual says nothing about how often, how strongly or under what circumstances sexual attraction is experienced. It also does not imply anything about romantic orientation, relationship style, fidelity, bodies, roles, preferences or boundaries. In dating, sexuality and BDSM, clear communication, respect for self-descriptions and consent are more important than assumptions about a label.
