Platonic attraction
Platonic attraction refers to the desire for friendship, emotional closeness, or another close relationship with a person that is not primarily romantic or sexual. It may show itself as an interest in spending time together, trust, affection, familiarity, care, or the wish to get to know someone better and build a stable bond.
Platonic attraction is distinct from romantic and sexual attraction, but it can occur alongside them or, for some people, be difficult to separate from them clearly. Especially in aromantic, asexual, and queer contexts, the term is useful for describing close bonds that do not necessarily fit traditional categories of partnership, friendship, or sexuality.
A platonic relationship can be deeply meaningful and committed even when it is not romantic or sexual. What matters is how the people involved define their relationship, what expectations they have, and which boundaries, forms of closeness, and commitments they agree on together.
