Pomosexual

Pomosexual is a self-description for people who do not feel adequately represented by common categories of sexual orientation such as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or pansexual, or who deliberately question such categories. “Pomo” is short for “postmodern.” The term is used mainly in queer and sexuality-related discourse and emphasizes that desire, identity, and relationship experience cannot always be described clearly, permanently, or through fixed categories.

Pomosexuality can mean that a person rejects fixed labels, plays with them, or critically examines the social norms behind sexual orientation. It is not about devaluing other orientations, but about making room for experiences that do not fit comfortably into established terms. Some people use “pomosexual” as an identity, while others use it more as a political, theoretical, or playfully provocative description.

The term is not widely known everywhere and is not a medical or psychological diagnosis. As with all self-descriptions, what matters is how the person concerned understands the term for themselves. Respectful use means asking questions openly, taking self-definitions seriously, and not imposing a label on anyone.
