Girlflux
Girlflux is a non-binary gender identity. People who describe themselves as girlflux experience their gender with varying intensity in a range from female, partly female or girl-/woman-aligned to agender, meaning without gender. This is not about mood swings, but about a person’s own perception of their gender.
The suffix “-flux” means that the intensity of a gendered feeling may vary over time. A girlflux person may feel strongly female on some days, partly female on others, and at other times hardly gendered or not gendered at all. How often or how strongly these changes occur differs from person to person. In this context, “girl” refers to an alignment with femininity or femaleness and not to a person’s age.
A related microlabel is demigirlflux. It can describe people whose gender fluctuates between demigirl, meaning partly female, and agender. In sexuality, dating and BDSM, girlflux says nothing about a person’s body, sexual orientation, roles, preferences or boundaries. What matters are the person’s self-description, respectful pronoun use and clear, consensual communication.
