Wax

Wax is used in BDSM and temperature play by dripping warm, liquid wax onto the skin. It can serve as a sensual stimulus, as part of a control-based scene, or as an element of play involving heat and pain. Temperature is crucial, because not every type of wax is suitable for use on the skin.

Great caution is essential: many waxes become far too hot and can cause serious burns. Wax with metallic or glitter additives is also unsuitable. Only specially designed, skin-safe products or candles explicitly intended for body wax should be used; wax from tealights or grave candles is not ideal and may still be too hot. Consent, a safe distance, a small test area, and an immediate way to stop the scene are important before use.
