Coitus interruptus
Coitus interruptus refers to interrupting sexual intercourse shortly before ejaculation so that the semen is released outside the vagina. The method was formerly used as contraception, but it is considered unsafe and unreliable. The reason is that pre-ejaculate can already be released before the actual ejaculation and may contain sperm.
As a sole method of contraception, coitus interruptus is therefore not recommended. The risk of unintended pregnancy is significantly higher than with effective contraceptive methods, and the method does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Anyone seeking reliable contraception should use medically recognized methods and seek advice if needed.
