Faggot

“Faggot” is an English slur for gay men. In German, it is often borrowed directly; the Germanized form “Fagott” is not appropriate here because it is also the name of a musical instrument and can soften the insulting meaning. The term is strongly offensive and should generally be avoided as an outside label.

In some queer or activist contexts, the word is sometimes deliberately reclaimed in English as a self-empowering self-designation. However, this works only in specific contexts and should not be generalized. Outside clear self-reference, the term remains hurtful and derogatory.
