Travesty / Travestie

Travestie refers to the theatrical disguise and portrayal of a person as the other gender, usually as part of a show, stage performance, or artistic performance. Gender roles are often deliberately exaggerated or artistically subverted. In this sense, travestie is primarily a form of performing art and not automatically an expression of gender identity.

Travestie should not be confused with transgender identity or transsexuality. Drag queens and drag kings often use elements of travestie, but this does not necessarily indicate a specific identity. The key distinction is between stage role, styling, and personal identity.
